Treatment of tinnitus

Tinnitus is an audible sound (ringing, buzzing, and whistling) in one or both of your ears. Noise does not come from an external factor and other people usually cannot hear it.

This condition is an otological disorder and affects about 15% -20% of people, and is more common in older adults. However, as a phenomenon it is little understood for which there are not many treatment options.

Types of tinnitus
There are two types of tinnitus:

Tinnitus in subjective ears: are sounds that can only be perceived by the patient. It is a common type and is usually associated with problems affecting a person's hearing system.
Tinnitus in the objective ears: are sounds that can be heard by the patient and the doctor, approaching the appropriate device near the patient's ear. This type is more rare and is usually caused by a physical problem that can occur such as a vascular disorder.

Possible causes of tinnitus

Tinnitus has many possible causes. Each type of tinnitus comes from a different pathological mechanism that may cause them.

  • Otologic health conditions: hearing loss, Meniere's disease, auditory neuroma
  • Autotoxic treatments
  • Neurological health conditions: multiple sclerosis, head injury
  • Metabolic health conditions: thyroid disorders, hyperlipidemia, vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Psychogenic conditions: depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia
  • ?Cardiovascular conditions: hypertension, arteriovenous dysplasia, vascular tumors
  • Neurological conditions: Myoclonic contractions of the muscles of the middle ear or palate

?Restoring hearing with a device often helps the patient counteract tinnitus, allowing the brain's hearing threshold to be reshaped so that tinnitus is not perceived. In some cases, hearing restoration may not be immediately effective, but the level of tinnitus in the ears drops significantly, so internal sounds become less important than new external sounds.
